This private custom build is the second piece of furniture for our Muriwai clients. They wanted a cabinet to designed to house one of their most precious assets: their favourite vinyl records, turntable and amplifier.
The brief was specific and the key requirements were as follows: it must be made from a native NZ timber; inspired by simple mid-century design with a ‘slice of modern’; and style that would stand the test of time. This piece sits in a thoroughfare between the living room and lounge, which gave us limited parameters on size.
Using native NZ Rimu, we started with the question: ‘What are the strong design aesthetics known to mid-century pieces?’ The leg style delivers the mid-century aspect and the slatted cabinet fronts add the modern twist.
This solid, timeless piece is now the music centre of the house, just as the Outdoor Lounger is the centerpiece of their outdoor area.
